It’s time for another edition of NHL rumours. The Stanley Cup Final starts tonight, but there is plenty of other news for the other 30 teams. There’s a new president of hockey operations for the Pittsburgh Penguins in Kyle Dubas. The former Toronto Maple Leafs general manager won’t be filling that role with the Pens. However, he’s going to play big hand in how the team is shaped. One question that Dubas will need to answer is that of the Tristan Jarry future with the club.

Tristan Jarry Future Update
Rumour: The Pittsburgh Penguins disclosed some of Dubas’ statements to the media about different questions surrounding the club. Dubas said that he and the organization are going to take a good look at Jarry’s place with the club. The new president said that he would rely on goalie coach Andy Chiodo and head coach Mike Sullivan before making an informed decision.

Jarry has shown promise at times, but had some issues at times in the 2022-23 campaign. The Surrey, British Columbia native went 24-13-7 with a 2.90 goals-against-average and two shutouts. Jarry battled through injury issues and is an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.
What is the Tristan Jarry Future with Pittsburgh?
Dubas said that he wouldn’t be hiring a general manager until July. This means that Dubas will be handling the GM role on an interim basis. One of the biggest decisions that he has to make is that of Jarry’s future with the club.
Casey DeSmith has one more year on his contract and comes with a cap hit of $1.8 million. That’s a bit more manageable than Jarry’s $3.5 million cap number. However, DeSmith is an unproven commodity as a full-season starter. Getting Jarry back is a pivotal move for the Penguins and one of Dubas’ top early priorities.
