Van Beuren, who was a standout as a player at The Hill School and Princeton University, died in a car accident last month

Teddy van Beuren, known to many for his love of the beautiful game, passed away on June 26 in a car accident in Shohola, Pennsylvania after an evening of fly fishing with his father.

Van Beuren was just recently named as chairman of the NYC Street Soccer Board. The 38-year-old spent nearly a decade of his life with Street Soccer USA, both in Philadelphia and New York City.

“We hold Teddy up unflinchingly as an example to everyone,” Street Soccer USA stated in a release. “Teddy was blessed with talent, charisma, and good nature, and he exceeded all we might have expected of him in terms of giving back.”

Van Beuren always had a deep-rooted passion for soccer.

He was the captain at Princeton University nearly two decades ago, where he was also the Vice President of the University Cottage Club. Prior to college, the Spring City, Pa. native was a standout at The Hill School. His father, Ted van Beuren, is the president and CEO of United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pa.

On top of soccer, van Beuren had many other athletic interests. He completed six marathons, and was an Ironman athlete. Outside of sports, he recently founded BLDRS, which “connects entrepreneurs, investors, and innovators to collaborate and achieve that which could not be done alone.” This past spring, he earned his MBA from Columbia Business School with high honors.

“It was never imaginable to lose Teddy like this,” Street Soccer USA wrote in the release. “The joy and motivation he blessed us with will always be with us. Our deepest condolences to his closest friends and family.”

According to the New York Times obituary, van Beuren’s family is requesting donations be sent to Street Soccer USA or Harboring Hearts, in lieu of flowers.
