Playing with 10 men, the Union salvaged a point after a goal from Santos in the 85’

It almost looked like the Union were doomed to return to Chester losing back to back games, especially after Matt Freese was sent off in the 57th minute. Thankfully Sergio Santos rescued a point with his goal in the 85’. With the Red Bulls left back Tolkin on the pitch, Bedoya quickly throw the ball into play, Mbaizo sends it into the box and Santos is able to get his head on the end of it for the goal.

As I said before, it wasn’t the strongest game for Matt Freese. Who was making his first start of the season, goalkeeper Andre Blake is away on international duty, he had a few great saves in the first half. But 12 minutes after the start of the second half, a terrible decision from Jakob Glesnes lead to even bigger head scratcher move by Freese.

Glesnes tried to play the ball back to Freese to clear it, however the pass back was very soft and was picked off by the Red Bulls. Freese tried to recover but instead wrapped his arms around the stomach of Wiki Carmona. This move made the ref show a straight red, sending Freese off for impeding an obvious goal scoring chance.

Coach Jim Curtin has a difficult task when it comes to selecting the starting eleven as he is dealing with missing some starts due to the Gold Cup getting underway. Andre Blake, Cory Burke and Alvas Powell are all unavailable for selection since they are away with Jamaica’s National team. He also made a strange move by putting Daniel Gazdag in as a striker, the Hungarian national player is typically in the midfield. Atlas all was okay, after he brought Santos in for Leon Flach.

Now it is time for you to share your opinion of the team’s recent game by rating the Philadelphia Union’s individual performances. Fill out our Community Player Ratings Poll.
