Irvine has led the Explorers since 2016

La Salle men’s soccer head coach Rob Irvine recently stepped down from the program he’s helmed since 2016 after getting a promotion with U.S. Soccer to Talent Identification Manager for the East Coast.

Irvine took over for Pat Farrell after his retirement in 2016. He was the head coach at Kean University for two seasons prior after serving as an assistant at Penn for eight years.

“This was a very difficult decision to leave La Salle,” Irvine stated in a news release. “Being the La Salle head men’s soccer coach was such a meaningful experience and a responsibility I took very seriously. The daily interaction with the players is what I will miss most. We have a very special group of players and staff who have great competitive grit. I look forward to supporting the program in the future.”

Irvine was previously working as a part-time scout for U.S. Soccer at the youth level and will now oversea talent identification for the entire region.

Under his tenure, La Salle had ten Atlantic 10 year-end honorees and ten Philadelphia Soccer Six yearly award winners, along with numerous team and individual academic accolades. In 2016, his first year at the helm, the Explorers started 5-1 to match the best start in program history, posted a 10-win season and earned the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
