Game Thread: Philadelphia Union 2 vs D.C. United 1, Final

After a 90 minute weather delay, the Union were able to get 3 points when play resumed at 11:19 PM

Game Updates

90+5’ – Bendik taking his time to set the ball in the play, just places it down on the 6 yard line and the ref blows the whistle. Game ends at 11:29 pm.

90+3’ – Ref is not happy with the delay from Bendik, verbally telling him to put the ball in.

90’- Bendik comes off his line to catch the ball. We will have five minutes of stoppage time here.

88’ – It looks like 95% of the fans drove home during the delay. Since the restart it has been all DC passing from one side to the other side of the field.

87’ – The game is back underway with a kick from DC United. Game resumed at 11:19pm.

90 minute Weather Delay

87’ – WE WERE SOOOO CLOSE! However the ref has spotted lighting, so play is stopped and the teams are heading to the locker room. We will at least be chilling out for 30 minutes. So how is everyone feeling about the game?

84’ – Union making a change here as Sullivan comes on to replace Santos.

83’ – Can’t take this one back Ref. Union catch United out of position. Santos sprints up the field dribbles it a few times and cuts towards of the center of the box. Hamid comes out to try and close him down, but the ball gets passed to Przybylko who sends it to the back of the net. Union up 2-1.

75’ – Play is stopped as the Union are on the attack and a United player goes down for a hard tackle. He hasn’t gotten up since and now the staff is on the pitch.

74’ – DC seems happy with the draw, as they are now taking their time to get to the ball.

71’ – AND he waives the goal off. The ref is not making any calls the Union way, as he has overturned both of his calls from VAR checks.

70’ – Union of their third corner kick, this one from the far flag, is curled to the near post. Przybylko gets a foot on it and so does Santos. Union goes up by a goa…. hold on we have VAR in play.

68’ – Union earn a corner here after the ball bounces around inside the ball. The service is sent into the box and then is cleared out to Glesnes, whose shot is blocked. The ball gets picked up by Gazdag who shows off his footwork and earns another Corner.

66’ – United lines up for their 6th corner of the match. The ball is sent into the middle of the box but it sent outside of the penalty area. DC gets a one on one on the left side of the box with Elliott and it is sent out for another corner. The second corner is easily handled by the Union.

57’ – Play is stopped as Martinez is down on the pitch. The staff is now out looking at him.

56’ – Check is complete and it the ref has waived off the penalty.

54’ – Referee points to the spot after Flach goes down near the top corner of the box. But hold on we have a VAR check happening.

50’ – United plays a corner short and a terrible decision by the union gives up a penalty kick. Asad lines up and easily converts the PK. Game is back to being leveled.

47’ – Martinez goes down with no one around him. Replay shows him taking an arm to the side of the stomach.

46’ – The game is back underway. The second half resumes at 8:45 pm.

45+5’ – We have halftime in Chester. Teams headed to the dressing room at 8:29 PM.

45+3’ – Union earn a free kick here after a hard foul by United. The free kick is sent high and far and easily handled by Hamid.

45+1’ – We will see at least 5 minutes of extra time here.

45’ – Santos is taken down near the center box area. Alfaro, earns a yellow card and then Przybylko is taken down. United’s Reyna also enters the ref’s book with a yellow card.

42’ – Another stretching save by Bendik here as the shot was low and heading towards the left corner.

41’ – The service is sent to the far post, but the exchange ends with United getting called for a foul.

40’ – Play gets back underway with United starting deep in their own end. As they move up the field, the union are tightly marking them and they have a cross from the left side of the field and it goes out for a corner.

38’ – Bendik with a great save to keep the clean sheet, then the rebound bounces off the crossbar. Confidence has to get bumped up here. Meanwhile play is stopped as the medical staff is on the pitch looking at Mbaizo.

35’ – Santos is being a huge threat for United tonight. Here he earns a free kick after being on the wrong end of a late tackle. Wagner plays it short for Gazdag and it gets blocked by United for a corner kick.

32’ – DC is making their second change here Reyna is now on for Perez.

30’ – We also have a sub here by United as Russell Canouse’s is pulled due to an injury. He is replaced by Moses Nyeman.

29’ – Santos almost adds to his goal tally, but Hamid makes a great stop to deny the goal. Play is now stopped as another United player is on the ground.

28’ – DC is playing down a man currently as one of their Perez is being treated on the sideline.

27’ – We are getting a little chippy on the pitch, United’s Asad has been shown a yellow card by the ref. Teams have one a piece now.

22’ – Play is stopped as there is a United player down on the pitch holding his leg. Martinez is also shown a yellow card. While the play is stopped you see the rest of the team yelling at him to calm down, as the boys in blue do not want to play a man down.

21’ – Union’s backline does a good job here to stop United’a threat. United held the ball a little too long and the defense was able to handle the threat and send the ball out of play up the field. One thing is for sure, it’s going to be a lot of work for the U’s defense tonight.

17’ – Union with another set piece, this time it is a corner from the far flag. Wagner and Gazdag are standing over the ball. The ball is easily handled by United and is heading on a counter. After the Union pick off the ball to start their own counter play is stopped because of a possible head injury off the corner kick. A bit delayed and the Santos is letting the Ref know.

11’- Great counter attack by the Union. Mbaizo sends it up the field, Gazdag gets foot on it and sends it to Santos who is wide open on the left side of the pitch. The shot gets past Bill Hamid for a UNION GOAL!

8’ – Union with a free kick here, Wagner sends it to the far post where a jumping Kacper Przybylko jumps on top of two United players. That jumped earned him a foul.

6’- United’s first corner is sent into the middle of the box and is sent out of the box by Glesnes. DC sends it back towards the box, but it goes out for a goal kick.

1’- Game underway, Kickoff happened at 8:38pm.
