Both players have rebounded from dreadful starts.
April was not kind to Alec Bohm or Brandon Marsh. The pair started 2025 in brutal fashion that led to questions regarding their status on the team this season and beyond. Bohm was hitting .221 with a .526 OPS. Marsh was even worse, hitting .095 with a .387 OPS and a staggering 31.4% strikeout rate before landing on the injured list with a knee injury.
You wouldn’t know this by looking at the two of them now. Since May 1st, Bohm is hitting .329 with an .867 OPS. Over that time, he’s also rediscovered his runners in scoring position mojo, as Bohm is hitting .341 with a .903 OPS as of yesterday in those situations. Our own Ethan Witte dove deeper into Bohm’s resurgence in a piece from yesterday as well. In summary, Bohm has raised his season OPS over 200 points since the calendar switched to May.
Marsh has been equally outstanding since he returned from the injured list on May 3rd. In 35 games since that date, Marsh is hitting .330 with an .876 OPS. He’s been particularly hot in June, batting .382 with four extra base hits. Marsh has also cut his strikeout rate since returning to a more manageable 23.1% over that span with an impressive 11.5% walk rate. He’s raised his season average to .256 entering Wednesday and risen his season OPS all the way up 400 points to .720.
The sustained effort from both hitters to resurrect their seasons is admirable even if it’s likely that neither can keep up quite this pace for the rest of the year. Nevertheless, they’ve improved their status greatly over the last month. So, we ask you dear readers: Which turnaround has impressed you the most? Is it Bohm for not letting the early season struggles spiral? Or is it Marsh for his red-hot performance to erase the memory of his hitless streak?
