That’s a big hole in the lineup
Trea Turner had an electric play at home plate last night, scoring from second on a walk/passed ball. However, it came at a cost.
Prior to tonight’s game against the San Francisco Giants, the Phillies placed SS Trea Turner on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain. To fill his spot on the 26-man roster, the club recalled INF Kody Clemens from Lehigh Valley (AAA).

Alright, an injured list stint is probably needed to get him right. No need to have him re-aggravate anything. It’s probably only a day to da—
When asked how long he expects he’ll be out, Trea Turner said six weeks. https://t.co/CPArUeWL9N

Well shoot.
Having Turner out is a big blow to the team, no matter how you shake things out. He’s been a catalyst for the offense at the top, putting up numbers that had him on pace for something in the 5+ WAR category. That’s a player in the MVP discussion. Now, he’ll need to take a backseat for a while.
So what does the team do? The obvious answer is Bryson Stott venturing back to his old stomping grounds and have Whit Merrifield take up the bulk of the keystone playing time. Edmundo Sosa will probably see quite a bit of time at shortstop as well, though we saw that he can be exposed a bit when given extended run at a starting position. There isn’t much minor league depth unless you want the team to dance with Scott Kingery again….and I do not.
For now, they’ll need others to step up, particularly the right handed bats in the lineup. Wouldn’t mind seeing Bryce Harper go on his MVP run a little early too.
