Break out the mops.
The Phillies rode a strong start from Ranger Suárez and RBI doubles from Bryce Harper and Max Kepler to a 2-0 win to complete a four-game sweep of the Rockies at Coors Field. It was also a perfect 7-0 sweep of Colorado in the season series. It’s the first time the Phillies have ever swept a season series of at least seven games in their history.
Crosstown traffic
Suárez continued his run of good starts that began after his rough season debut on May 4th. He completed 6.2 shutout innings on 99 pitches with six strikeouts despite allowing six hits and three walks. Suárez maneuvered his way through heavy traffic on the bases, as his only clean inning came in the first when he set the Rockies down in order on 12 pitches.
In the second, Suárez retired Ryan McMahon on a groundout after six pitches but then he allowed a triple to Brenton Doyle on the first pitch of the at-bat. But Suárez was then able to retire Tyler Freeman and Kyle Farmer on a ground out and a fly out on just three pitches.
Suárez again ran into trouble in the third, as Jordan Beck and Ezequiel Tovar both singled with two outs to put runners on the corners. But once again, Suárez easily worked his way out of it without allowing a run, collecting a strikeout of Hunter Goodman on an extremely generous called third strike.
I think I just saw the single worst strike call of all time in this Rockies game
Two is enough
Meanwhile, Suárez’ opponent on the mound Germán Márquez was equally as in control through the first three innings. The Phillies offense managed just one hit, a single from Kyle Schwarber, off of Márquez before the fourth. And that single was quickly erased on a double play from Nick Castellanos thanks to a fantastic catch and throw from Beck in left field.

But the Phillies finally broke through in the fourth. Bryson Stott reached on an error to begin the inning and then stole second. Trea Turner struck out on one of Márquez’ many knuckle curveballs before Harper came to the plate with a runner on second and one out. He promptly ripped a double the opposite way that scored Stott and put the Phillies ahead 1-0.

Harper is now hitting .500 over his last seven games with an OPS of 1.266. He’s raised his season average to .275 from .235 since the start of May.
Kepler added an RBI double of his own in the seventh after Schwarber led off the inning with a walk and Castellanos struck out against Márquez. Schwarber scored easily from first base on the hit.

Bullpen lockdown
Suárez got the first two outs in the seventh but then allowed a double and a steal to Beck and a walk to Tovar to put runners at the corners in a 2-0 game. He gave way to Orion Kerkering, who retired Goodman on one pitch thanks to a great play from Harper to lean over the railing to catch a pop-up.

Matt Strahm was next up, and he worked around a one out single thanks to a great route and catch by Brandon Marsh in center field to end the inning. Jordan Romano entered in the ninth and extended his scoreless streak to nine games with a quick 10-pitch inning that featured two strikeouts.
Tomorrow’s matchup
The Phillies will next head to Sacramento to face the A’s. Zack Wheeler (5-1, 2.67) takes the mound in game one. The A’s have not yet announced a starter as of this writing. First pitch is scheduled for 10:05 PM eastern time.
