For now, there is
The Phillies went about bolstering their lineup this trade deadline by acquiring Harrison Bader from the Twins. That led many to believe that the team had solved their outfield platoons by acquiring a starter and leading to the falling of these dominoes:
- Bader starting in center field
- Brandon Marsh starting in left field, or at least platooning with Otto Kemp
- Max Kepler getting DFA’ed
- Johan Rojas getting sent down to Lehigh Valley
Instead, only one of those things has happened – Rojas being sent to the minors. Rob Thomson has insisted that, for now at least, the platoons will continue and has put that into practice. Now, against Tarik Skubal of all people. sitting down Marsh and Kepler made sense, but that leads us to our question of the day.
Should the team continue with their platoon situations in the outfield?
If they get down the stretch and continue to have issues, maybe playing the strengths of each hitter makes sense. But wouldn’t giving Bader and Marsh some run, regardless of who is on the mound, be something they should attempt for a few weeks now in August?
