It’s automatic, baby.
I have never had a musical note in my body, yet in my senior year of high school, a friend of mine convinced me to join the band. He was in the percussion section and said, “Just play the bass drum. All you need to do is keep the beat.” Obviously, he was wrong, but it did give me an introduction to the metronome. That little musical device that helps people keep the beat because it stays steady, keep the same beat until it breaks or you tell it to stop.
Zack Wheeler is a metronome. You know what he’s going to do each and every time. Maybe someone knocks it off beat once in a while, but you can more or less count on the fact that each start, it will be an excellent one. We need to cherish each one and not take them for granted.
