Rest in peace, Cobra
Dave Parker passed away yesterday, around a month before he was due to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. I was not around for the game yet, but the replay of the throw he made in the 1979 All-Star Game irritates me every time I see it.
Not because of who it is. No, it’s because the announcer, Joe Garagiola, is so enamored with the play made by Gary Carter that the throw made by Parker, an absolute seed from deep right field is an afterthought.
I’m not sure how some of you tolerated Garagiola during games growing up.
On to the links.
Phillies news:
- Bryce Harper took live batting practice. Looks like a return to the lineup next week is on the table.
- There are three teams that could be one stop shopping for the Phillies once the trade deadline draws near ($).
MLB news:
- The Diamondbacks have pieces they can move if they choose to sell, but one player that could come up to play is going to miss some time. Again.
- Arizona has approved money that will upgrade Chase Field and likely keep the Diamondbacks from building somewhere else.
- Craig Breslow still thinks the team has a shot in 2025 and might not sell ($). He should consider watching the Red Sox before making that determination.
- Mike Elias doesn’t know what he’s doing at the trade deadline with the Orioles, but he’s prepared to do something. Weird.
