Wheels was off
It’s always weird when Zack Wheeler struggles. He wasn’t sharp at all in the first two innings, a lack of command that wound up costing him a win. Had he been better and had a lower pitch count, he may have been able to come back out for the sixth inning, the one in which Taijuan Walker decided to throw home run balls to give up the lead.
But hey, even Wheeler is human.
On to the links.
Phillies news:
- Bryce Harper has started to take some dry swings. Hitting off a tee is next. That and more in these notes ($).
- The Nick Castellanos benching is behind him ($). What a nonstory that was.
MLB news:
- Are baseball players better at playing baseball than they were years ago? Baseball America investigates ($). A good read.
- Wait, there was actually some speculation that the Braves would trade Chris Sale? Why the heck would they do that?
- Speaking of the Braves, they’re also out on Jose Ruiz, designating him for assignment.
- The Royals got an update on Cole Ragans. He’ll still be out for the next four weeks at least with a shoulder strain.
