Phillies ML: Even
Zach Wheeler will take the mound for the Phillies and the logic for this bet basically starts and ends there. As rough of a season as it’s been for the Phillies, one of their bright spots has been the continued excellence from their ace. The Phillies lost the first three starts Wheeler made this season, but since then Wheeler has thrown 32.2 IP with a 1.38 ERA. In those 5 games the Phillies are 4-1, with the only loss being a 2-1 extra innings loss to the Texas Rangers that saw 0 combined runs after 9 innings, clearly a fluke. While the Phils have had a pretty rough start to the season, they’ve done an excellent job of avoiding the sweep, only getting swept once this season (also somehow by the Texas Rangers). I look for the team’s ace to continue his lights out pitching and stop the team’s losing streak at 2.
Zach Wheeler O 6.5 Strikeouts: +115
This is a fun side play tonight if you’re not so convinced the Phils can get it done. Continuing the trend of betting this game based on Wheeler, in those last 5 games I mentioned Wheeler’s strikeout numbers have gone 7,7,7,9,10. Clearly all of those strikeout numbers are over 6.5, which feels like a low number for a player who’s been one of the better punch out pitchers in baseball over the last couple of seasons. I have to imagine the number is at 6.5 based on Wheeler’s shaky start to the season following his absence from Spring Training. Wheeler is clearly back to his normal self now and should be able to clear that 6.5 number with ease, take this today before the book’s re-adjust and you’ll start to see Wheeler’s strikeout number around 8.
