Phillies Prospects Most Likely to be Traded This Summer

June 24, 2025 by Last Word On Baseball

The Philadelphia Phillies have multiple prospects who are likely to be traded in the lead up to the deadline. Recently, Matt Gelb of The Athletic wrote about some of the team’s top prospects standing heading into July. Gelb may be correct, but it is less likely that the Phillies deal some of their higher-level prospects. Andrew Painter will debut soon and is not going to get traded. Aidan Miller and Justin Crawford are both off limits for the most part as well. Eduardo Tait should not be traded despite speculation. However, Mick Abel could be dealt because the Phillies have a surplus of starting pitching.

Phillies Prospects That Will Likely Be Traded

Gabriel Rincones Jr. (OF)

Gabriel Rincones Jr. had a fantastic spring training with the big league club. In 15 spring training games, he recorded a .217/.379/.609 line with three home runs and seven RBI, along with a 147 wRC+ and a .417 wOBA. Rincones also had a 0.86 BB/K rate. Currently, he is not on the Phillies’ 40-man roster. While there have been opportunities for the team to call up Rincones, they have elected not to do so. This offseason, Rincones will be Rule 5 Draft eligible.

Rincones has a .218/.354/.377 line with eight home runs and 40 RBI in 65 minor league games this season, along with a 99 wRC+, a .339 wOBA, and a 0.69 K/BB rate. Now in his age-24 season, Rincones does not have a clear path to the majors at the moment. Moreover, he has limited positional flexibility. Rincones has played the two corner outfield spots and nothing else. At this point, it would make sense to trade Rincones if it is for the right player to upgrade the major league roster.

Alex McFarlane (RHP)

Outside of Abel, Alex McFarlane is the most likely to be traded among the Phillies’ pitching prospects. In High-A this season, McFarlane has a 0-7 record with a 7.02 ERA in 12 starts, to go with a 4.97 FIP and a 1.35 K/BB rate. Additionally, he has a 0.66 HR/9 allowed rate and an 8.1% HR/FB allowed rate. This season, McFarlane has a .270 batting average against and a .328 BABIP against. He has struggled across three seasons in the Phillies’ minor league system, but McFarlane could still be dealing with the effects of missing the entire 2024 season.

McFarlane probably needs a change of scenery. In his age-24 season and still at Low-A, some team could take a flyer on McFarlane as a player added to complete a deal. He has kept the ball in the yard this season, which is a plus. He also has a better BAA and WHIP in 2025 compared to 2022. Undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2024 has impacted his career trajectory. The increase in walks while simultaneously having a noticeable decrease in strikeouts is a concern. McFarlane is Rule 5 Draft eligible this offseason.

Hendry Mendez (OF)

Hendry Mendez is the most likely to be traded among the Phillies’ position player prospects. In 60 minor league games this season, Mendez has a .298/.376/.457 line with five home runs and 32 RBI, along with a 135 wRC+, a .374 wOBA, and a 0.93 BB/K rate in Double-A, to go with a career-best 10.3% HR/FB rate. This is the first season Mendez has been at the Double-A level. He will be eligible for the Rule 5 Draft this offseason.

With Crawford in line to be major league-ready soon, the 21-year-old Mendez could be on the move. The Milwaukee Brewers traded Mendez to the Phillies in 2023. The Phillies drafted multiple outfielders last year, and those players are ranked ahead of Mendez in the MLB Pipeline rankings. The Phillies have many outfield prospects among their MLB Pipeline Top 30. With that taken into consideration and with Mendez being Rule 5 eligible this offseason, he could very well be dealt.
