Brandon Marsh Going To Injured List Will Alter Phillies Outfield
Slow Start
Marsh has been struggling to start the season. In 17 games, he has a .095/.220/.167 line with one home run and five RBI. Marsh has a 19 wRC+ with a .115 BABIP and a .192 wOBA this season. He has a 31.4% strikeout rate this season to go with a 13.7% walk rate. Marsh has the fourth worst batting average and the fourth worst slugging percentage among those with at least 50 plate appearances this season entering play on Sunday. Furthermore, Marsh has the fourth worst OPS and the fourth worst BABIP this season among that group.
Others Will Need To Step Up
Johan Rojas will likely play center field most of the time while Marsh is out. This was already the case for the last few games when Marsh was out but not yet on the IL. Weston Wilson could be back from the injured list before Marsh is ready to go. If this happens, it could lead to some interesting personnel decisions. Edmundo Sosa could also see some additional playing time in the outfield while Marsh is on the injured list. Sosa has made three appearances in the outfield this season, including one start in left field. That is the lone outfield start Sosa has in his career.
