At the last minute, the team made a minor deal, bringing in a former first round pick to see what they can do.
The Phillies have acquired RHP Matt Manning from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for minor league pitcher Josueth Quiñonez and optioned him to single-A Clearwater. To make room for Manning on the 40-man roster, RHP Devin Sweet was designated for assignment.

As far as a small trade, it’s not the worst in the world. Manning has shown flashes of success in the past minor leagues, but has never shown consistency enough for it to matter.
Let’s see what Caleb Cotham can do with him.
