The Phils’ prospect is going to be out for a while.
Phillies manager Rob Thomson announced to reporters today that Moisés Chace, the organization’s third ranked prospect according to Baseball Prospectus, is set to undergo Tommy John Surgery.
Moisés Chace is going for Tommy John surgery, Rob Thomson said. The prospect had trouble with velocity all season. More on him from this story: https://t.co/3HpX82VOsh

Chace had excelled last season after coming to the Phillies in the trade that sent reliever Gregory Soto to Baltimore. He made six starts after the trade and pitched to a 3.84 ERA in 28.1 combined innings across High-A Jersey Shore and Double-A Reading. Chace flashed his potential with 48 strikeouts to just 10 walks in those starts. His big fastball stood out, averaging just under 95 MPH and maxing out around 97 MPH.
But he hasn’t been the same in 2025, and that fastball velocity is the biggest difference. He’s averaged just 90 MPH this season in his six starts at Reading and has 12 walks in just 16.2 IP. The Phillies were reportedly concerned with the shape he showed up in at camp and his lack of throwing in the offseason.
Then on Wednesday, Chace was removed from his start for Reading after calling for the manager and showing visible discomfort.
Moises Chace immediately called for the manager and trainer after throwing a pitch and does not look happy. He is coming out of the game and broadcast caught him pointing at his shoulder.

The Phillies have not provided a date for the surgery or a timetable for Chace’s return as of this writing, but it’s a likely bet that the 21-year-old pitching prospect won’t throw a pitch again until 2026 at the earliest.
