MLB Insider: Phillies Top Trade Fits

June 19, 2025 by Last Word On Baseball

MLB.com insider Mark Feinsand mentioned top trade candidates for the Philadelphia Phillies among the best players available at the trade deadline. Feinsand named multiple players as trade fits for the Phillies. The Phillies are looking for outfield help and bullpen help. José Alvarado’s suspension has made the bullpen the top need. Alvarado is ineligible to pitch in the postseason if the Phillies get there. The Phillies need to upgrade their high-leverage relief group if they want to win the World Series in 2025. Stability in the closer role is essential.

Collectively, the Phillies outfield has a .249/.319/.388 line with 19 home runs and 92 RBI this season. Additionally, Phillies outfielders have a 97 wRC+ and a 304 BABIP this year. The Phillies outfield ranks 21st in wRC+, along with a .707 OPS, which ranks 16th. When specifically examining Phillies center fielders, they rank 23rd with a 77 wRC+ and a .632 OPS, which ranks 21st. Phillies center fielders have a .293/.304/.327 line with two home runs, along with 26 RBI this season. Across the board, the Phillies need more offensive production from their outfield.

Phillies Top Trade Fits

Jake Bird, RP, Colorado Rockies

Bird is an interesting trade candidate for the Phillies. One reason is that Bird is under team control through the 2028 season. Bird has a 2-1 record with a 2.18 ERA in 31 games this season. Additionally, Bird has a 2.39 FIP along with a 1.19 WHIP this year. Bird has been a bright spot on an otherwise historically bad Rockies team. This season, Bird has a career-best 3.38 K/BB rate and a career-best 0.44 HR/9 allowed rate. Opposing batters have a .219 average and a .326 BABIP against Bird this season. Bird has an impressive 0.41 ERA at Coors Field this season compared to a 4.19 ERA on the road. Additionally, Bird has yet to allow a home run at Coors Field this season.

Kyle Finnegan, RP, Washington Nationals

ESPN insider Jeff Passan has also mentioned Finnegan as a fit for the Phillies. Finnegan is a free agent after this season. This year, Finnegan has a 0-2 record with a 3.12 ERA and 18 saves in 26 games. Finnegan has a 3.49 FIP as well as a 1.31 WHIP this season. Finnegan has a 2.63 K/BB rate and a career-best 0.69 HR/9 allowed rate. Finnegan has a career-worst strikeout rate, but a career-best walk rate. Opposing batters have a .260 average and a .312 BABIP against Finnegan this season. Finnegan is allowing the highest BAA and BABIP he has allowed in his major league career this season.

Luis Robert Jr., OF, Chicago White Sox

Robert has been consistently mentioned in connection with the Phillies over the last two seasons. A Gold Glove centerfielder, Robert, would potentially help the Phillies’ outfield defense. However, Robert is having a career-worst year at the plate. Robert has a .190/.275/.305 line with six home runs and 28 RBI in 65 games. To add, Robert has a career worst 63 wRC+ and a career worst .261 BABIP this season. Robert does have a career-best 0.33 BB/K rate, though. To add, Robert has the fifth-worst OPS among qualified batters and the fifth-worst wRC+ among qualified batters this season. Robert has team options for 2026 and 2027. The Phillies should look elsewhere.
