Wishing a happy retirement to a consummate pro
Whit Merrifield, who announced his retirement yesterday, was not a Phillie for very long. He played in 53 games with the franchise, slashing .199/.277/.295 in 2024 before being released, later finishing the season with Atlanta. Despite the short stay, he kindly thanked the Phillies and their fans in his retirement announcement.

“Philly, I liked you way more than you liked me. Sorry I stunk for you.”
There’s no way to massage the numbers to make his Phillies tenure appear successful. Still, it’s hard to dislike someone who gives the team their all, and even more so when they speak of their time with the team in such a gracious manner.
How will you remember Merrifield?
