It’s becoming something of a topic
You saw the story yesterday. Perhaps you were privy to some of the actual details that happened thanks to the original report that the confrontation between Bryce Harper and Rob Manfred was “heated”. By this point, you know.
MLB wants a salary cap in the next collective bargaining agreement.
Rob Manfred is making rounds to all the clubhouse to talk about economic issues in the game, presumptively to gauge their interest in a salary cap. It’s highly unlikely that he is using the term explicitly, otherwise he wouldn’t be good at his job. But without knowing exactly what is said within the walls, you can bet that the players know what he is there to try and convince them of.
Which brings us to our question of the day: does MLB need a salary cap? Pretty straightforward here. I don’t pretend to be some kind of expert of the game’s economics, but I’m pretty dead set against MLB having a salary cap. It doesn’t have to be that way; it just needs owners that willing to spend money on improving their roster each season instead of using it to pay off accumulated debt.
