And who would you be willing to give up in return?
Well, it’s that season again. Not summer (though of course it is that season, too), but rather mock trade season. The dreamed-up deals are flying fast and furious. All-Stars and top prospects are boarding hypothetical planes and putting on imagined uniforms of could-be new clubs. It’s all somewhat ridiculous— but so many fun things are. That’s not a reason to avoid the pains and pleasures of imagined trades.
ESPN’s Dave Schoenfield recently put out an article with several proposed “Godfather” offers for top players. Among them was a trade to bring Byron Buxton from the Twin Cities to the City of Brotherly Love. His proposal was Andrew Painter and Justin Crawford for the highly talented, oft-injured outfielder.
The question isn’t whether or not you’d like the Phillies to have Buxton— of course you would. The question is whether or not you’d like the Phillies to give up what they’d have to give up to get him.
Would you trade Painter and Crawford for Buxton? If not, what offer would be more palatable to you (while still being reasonable enough for Minnesota)?
