It should be a showcase event, but MLB isn’t that bright
MLB has really never done a good job marketing itself and its future prospects, instead relying on word of mouth to get it done. In the past few years, they’ve tried to do a better job at it, turning the MLB Draft into a multiday palooza instead of an over the phone exercise for the most diehard of nerds. One thing they did that was right was creating the Futures Game, a kind of All-Star game for the top prospects in the game, but they’re still fumbling the bag. Instead of having it a marquee event in the evening, a sort of Sunday Night Baseball thing to kick off All-Star weekend, it’s at the same time as regular season games.
Which brings us to our question of the day: do you even like the Futures Game? Yes, it’s a chance to watch the best prospects play instead of looking at their stat line, but do you care about those guys? The Kansas City Royals players that are representing them – is that something you are interested in? I know I am (and I’ll probably watch that over the Phillies), but maybe there is someone out there that couldn’t care less.
