Gone, but not forgotten
Kody Clemens smacked a double in his most recent game. He didn’t do it in Phillies pinstripes, though. He did it in a Twins jersey.
Seeing players take the field in unfamiliar jerseys following a trade, waiver pickup, or free agent signing is part and parcel with the baseball experience. Still, it’s always a bit odd when you see a former Phillie with a non-P logo on their cap for the first time.
Clemens is far from the only one, of course. Jeff Hoffman is in Toronto (which you’ve probably heard about). Carlos Estévez calls the City of Fountains home now. Andrew McCutchen, like a migrating bird, returned home to Pittsburgh. You can even find former Phils overseas: Yunior Marte calls Nagoya, Japan home now, and Nick Nelson can be found, alliteratively, in Nishinomiya, where he wears a Hanshin Tigers jersey.
Do you follow the former Phillies as they ply their trade elsewhere?
