Keep some perspective though
We’re almost through the first month of the season and, let’s be honest, it hasn’t been that fun to watch. There have been some moments that were exciting – the Dodgers series, watching Jesus Luzardo break out a bit – but for the most part, it’s been more frustrating than anything.
It’s not just the fans that are frustrated either. Rob Thomson mentioned several times after Wednesday’s game in New York that the team was just as frustrated with their play of late. The players want to perform not just for the fans, but they want to win as well. Particularly games in which they believe they should be the victor. With fans, frustration plants seeds that can bloom into full throated calls for change. If you aren’t winning with what you’ve got, get something that will win.
Which leads to our question of the day: do the Phillies just need to tinker around the edges with this roster, or is there a much bigger change necessary? Let’s remember: it’s still very early in the season. Most teams take a lot of time to let things even out before they plot a necessary course of action. Any major moves will have to wait until either July happens or the season is complete. Even those changes that might be considered “tinkering” probably don’t start happening until after Memorial Day. But in order for the team to move towards winning a championship, how must the roster change?
