There is selection here folks. Slim though, not going to lie. In 82 games from October through April, the Flyers won six overtime games. A few of them were courtesy of Matvei Michkov, with a few other Flyers in the mix to score the all-important goal. Here are five of the best overtime goals Philadelphia scored during the course of the 2024-25 season.
5) Sean Couturier versus Nashville (November 27, 2024)
It was anything but a great celebration. In fact, it looked like — given his history of back issues (and knee issues) — that it was a major injury waiting to happen. But Sean Couturier got up and celebrated with his teammates. Seconds earlier, the Flyers won the game when Travis Konecny skated up ice and tossed a 50/50 pass towards Couturier. The Philadelphia captain got his stick on it and deflected the rubber beyond the Predators netminder.
The win was a great comeback victory after Morgan Frost tied the game up with 12 seconds left in regulation. The clip below also showed a Nashville fan incredulous, shaking his head at what just transpired. Again, not the greatest celebration. Thankfully no harm in getting the two points in Music City.

4) Owen Tippett versus Columbus (December 21, 2024)
Similar to Couturier’s game-winner above, Flyers winger Owen Tippett capped off an exciting back-and-forth game with a great deke on Columbus goalie Elvis Merzlikins. Tippett took a great pass from center Noah Cates in full flight, then put a move on Merzlinkins that almost looked like it caused Merzlinkins to pull a groin or some other muscle extending his right leg. The goal concluded a great night for Tippett who ended up with a goal and three assists. Tippett got a secondary assist on the game-tying goal for the Flyers with 1:44 left in regulation when Tyson Foerster tied the game up 4-4.
The goal was Tippett’s eleventh in a season many expected him to break out. Unfortunately for all concerned the winger was life and death to get to the 20-goal plateau for the season.

3) Matvei Michkov versus Chicago (November 23, 2024)
Matvei Michkov scored a few overtime goals this season. This one showed he can be deadly around the net and not just lethal in terms of a playmaker. Michkov took a great feed from Travis Konecny as Philadelphia had a power play against the Blackhawks in overtime. Michkov’s overtime goal was the only one of the three that he scored that came before the faithful at Wells Fargo Center. The celebration afterwards was short and sweet, but still meant a great deal to the Russian rookie and his teammates.

2) Matvei Michkov versus Ottawa (November 14, 2024)
Down 4-2 with just under 10 minutes left in the third, the Flyers stormed back to tie the Senators 4-4. Outshot 37-19 at game’s end, many believed Philadelphia was lucky to get at least the loser’s point from the contest. However, Matvei Michkov had other ideas. Michkov fed a pass to Travis Sanheim who stormed up the ice. On entering the zone, Sanheim passed the puck back to Travis Konecny along the boards near the blueline. Konecny got the puck deeper in the zone to Michkov.
Michkov could’ve taken the puck around the net for a wraparound chance. He could dangled the puck and envision another scoring chance. But instead he scored from a ridiculous angle, shooting the puck off the back of Senators goaltender Linus Ullmark and into the back of the net. Michkov celebrated as Ullmark took his frustrating day out on his goalstick, smashing it against the post before skating away clearly pissed off. A goal that once again showcased what Michkov is capable of doing.
Philadelphia goal!

1) Matvei Michkov versus St. Louis (November 30, 2024)
Probably the goal that showed just what Michkov could do in the clutch was this one against the Blues days after American Thanksgiving (often the determining factor in a playoff spot or not). Michkov was caught behind the play somewhat as the Blues came down on a scoring chance. A fantastic play by Travis Konecny saw him sweep the puck away from the Blues player and in one motion pass the puck back up ice to a waiting (cheating?) Michkov.
Michkov, with Blues defenseman Colton Parayko got the puck and was in on a breakaway against Jordan Binnington. Binnington was no match for the Russian as he beat Binnington easily before crashing heavily into the end boards. The goal almost took a backseat to the fact the rookie looked to take the brunt of the fall on his left shoulder. Fortunately he got up and screamed with delight at putting the Flyers in the win column again. The team patted Michkov on the head repeatedly beforer he was horse-collared by Morgan Frost. A great goal from a young’un who looks like he’s just scratching the surface.
