Reggie Leach Scores Five Times in One Post-Season Game
1976: Leach ties Maurice Richard and Darryl Sittler‘s postseason record for goals in a game as the Philadelphia Flyers book a place in the Stanley Cup Final. The Flyers beat the Boston Bruins, 6-3, in Game 5 of the semifinals. Leach also sets a record for goals in consecutive games with nine.
It was an efficient night for Leach, as he scored five goals on seven shots in the win. The Montreal Canadiens would sweep the Flyers in four straight to win the Cup.
Other Notable Events
1973: Ken Dryden gets his first of 10 playoff shutouts in the Habs’ 4-0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. Dryden makes 19 saves in the Canadiens’ Game 5 win in the Final.
1976: Montreal starts a string of 11 consecutive post-season wins with 5-2 win over the New York Islanders in Game 5 of the semifinals. The Canadiens wouldn’t lose until April 28, 1977.
1982: The Vancouver Canucks reach their first Final with a 6-2 victory over Chicago in Game 5 of the Campbell Conference Final. Lars Lindgren gets three assists for the Canucks in the win.
1994: Ulf Dahlen scores the first post-season hat trick in San Jose Sharks history. Dahlen helps San Jose beat the Toronto Maple Leafs, 5-2, in Game 1 of Western Conference semifinals.
1995: Joe Sakic‘s hat trick lifts the Quebec Nordiques to a 5-4 comeback over the New York Rangers in Game 1 of Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
2010: Johan Franzen scores the second-fastest hat trick in playoff history as the Detroit Red Wings beat San Jose 4-1 in Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals. Franzen completes his hat trick in a span of 3:26 and is completed 11:16 into play.
2012: Martin Brodeur celebrates his 40th birthday with 20 saves for the New Jersey Devils. Brodeur guides the Devils to a 4-2 win in Game 4 over the Flyers.
2015: Tyler Johnson scores with 1.1 seconds as the Tampa Bay Lightning edges Montreal, 2-1, in Game 3 of Eastern Conference Semi-final.
2018: The Vegas Golden Knights are the third team to win two playoff series in their inaugural season. Vegas beats San Jose 3-0 in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinal thanks to 28 saves from Marc-Andre Fleury.
