The Philadelphia Flyers have wrapped up the last bit of necessary business for the offseason. They have re-signed the last remaining restricted free agent to a contract that already looks like a very good deal for the team.
According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Flyers have re-signed defenseman Cam York to a five-year, $25.75 million contract that will carry a $5.15 million AAV.

No further contract details have been made public, but we should find that out as soon as the team makes it official. York was a restricted free agent and this new deal will take him through the 2029-30 season and will be an unrestricted free agent that following summer. This contract buys two of York’s unrestricted free agency years.
According to PuckPedia, the Flyers have just $4.57 million in cap space, but that also includes winger Alex Bump on the official roster and we are not too sure if that is a reality. If Bump’s $950,000 cap hit is removed, by sending him down to he minors, then the Flyers have more than enough cap space to fit in York’s new contract. Teams are allowed to exceed the salary cap limit by 10 percent in the offseason, so the Flyers do not necessarily need to make any official roster moves.
This cap structure also does not include goaltender Ivan Fedotov down in the minors, where he is projected to be sent. That would add an additional $1.05 million to the Flyers’ cap space.
Even if you are not a massive fan of York and want more offense from a 24-year-old defenseman who can skate well and move the puck up the ice, it’s a fair deal. Last season, in 66 games, York scored four goals and 17 points while averaging 20:47 TOI and mainly on a pair with Travis Sanheim in the top four. The season prior, he scored 10 goals and 30 points while playing all 82 games and almost averaging a full two minutes more of ice-time. It will be interesting to see how York is used under new head coach Rick Tocchet, since the young blueliner barely received any power play time with John Tortorella in charge.
With this contract, York is added to the list of Flyers who are currently signed to contracts until 2030, joining Travis Sanheim on the blue line, and then the trio of Travis Konecny, Owen Tippett, and Sean Couturier.
More to come.
