We’ve made it folks! 2025 is just about to come to a close, and the Flyers will be sending the year off in Calgary, and hoping that it can be on a high note, as they look to make it a sweep of this back-to-back in Western Canada.

Don’t get done
The Flyers will be looking to make a statement in this game, and on the most basic level, they’ll also be looking to avoid letting the Flames do to them what they did to the Canucks last night. That is, the Flyers came into the last matchup with the rest advantage — coming off an off day while the Canucks were on the back half of a back-to-back — and they were able to take full advantage of that, grabbing momentum quickly after a bit of a slow start and holding on to control of that game just about the rest of the way. But tonight the script is flipped on them, as they’re coming in against a rested Flames team and looking to avoid letting them run away with that same edge in energy. It won’t be easy, but this is going to be a pretty major test of their resolve.
Ersson slides in
With Dan Vladar being given the start in last night’s game in Vancouver — a game which he did well in and came away with the win from as a result — the Flyers will now turn to Ersson for the final start of the back-to-back and the year. It seemed a bit of a curious choice, as it means that Vladar will be taking his first game back in Calgary since leaving in free agency from the bench, but the Flyers have tried to lock in their plan for these goaltending assignments as they settle into another busy stretch, and this is just how the chips have fallen.
All the same, Ersson will be coming into this one with some momentum, albeit distantly — his last start was the Flyers’ last game before Christmas back on the 23rd in Chicago, and he brought a strong bit of play and picked up his sixth win of the season in the process. It’s a good while to be off though, and we’ll see how quickly he’s able to get him back up to speed here.
Can we make it five for Grundstrom?
Don’t look now, but the Flyers have not just been getting some sparse bits of offense from their fourth line at long last, but they’ve been getting some legitimately consistent scoring output from that line, of late. The whole trio has taken a nice step forward, but at the forefront of this surge, of course, is Carl Grundstrom, who’s been a breath of fresh air since his second recall. With a goal last in last night’s game, Grundstrom has extended his scoring streak to four games, and while we don’t expect this level of production to continue indefinitely, he’s certainly been hard to slow down lately. Will tonight see him able to extend his scoring streak to five games? Time will tell, but that would certainly be a big way to close out the year for Grundstrom.
