The Flyers depth winger has a slightly lighter wallet.
The Philadelphia Flyers suffered their first regulation loss on Saturday against the Florida Panthers but the punishment didn’t just stop on the score sheet. Winger Nicolas Aube-Kubel has been fined $2,687.50 by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety for kneeing Panthers forward Mason Marchment.

The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
The incident, which occurred just a few minutes into the third period resulted in the Flyers player getting a two-minute minor for tripping as well. Luckily, Florida did not take advantage of that man advantage — but they did score a shorthanded game-winning goal just minutes later.

By looking at some clips of the kneeing, it’s a pretty dreadful way to take the dude off of the puck. Aube-Kubel certainly left his leg in Marchment’s path, committing to the collision that could have resulted in a serious injury.
After a disappointing season, the Flyers fourth-line winger has not gotten much better. Pointless through four games, Aube-Kubel has not been on the ice for a Philadelphia goal, but four from the opposition in just over 39 minutes of action. — add the context that the Flyers have been getting kicked in the gut by just about every on-ice metric when he’s out there; it’s dreadful.
Flyers are back on the ice on Wednesday as they make their western road trip, facing the Edmonton Oilers first.
