Did ESPN get it wrong?
Earlier this month, three Eagles players made the NFL’s annual Top 100 players list: Brandon Graham at #99, Jason Kelce at #92 and Fletcher Cox at #63.
ESPN has now unveiled their list and Eagles fans may be a bit disappointed. Zero Eagles players are on the list. The Birds are just one of two teams to not have a single player on the list along with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Yikes!
While Cox’s play has declined each of the last two seasons following his phenomenal All-Pro season in 2018, he still has a reputation as one of the game’s best defensive linemen. Graham has been written off his entire career, but is coming off a Pro Bowl berth. The player most disrespected here? Kelce, who continues to strengthen his Hall of Fame case by the year.
It’s not surprising to see veterans like Lane Johnson and Brandon Brooks, typically among the best players at their respective positions, left off after injury-plagued seasons. Darius Slay would have warranted being on the list in the past, but his first year in midnight green was fairly underwhelming.
The Eagles do have some talented youngsters on their roster though. Perhaps breakout seasons from Jordan Mailata, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert and Jalen Hurts could land them on the list in 2022. Bounce back seasons from Cox, Johnson and the like could do the same.
