Will Eagles Run Petty “Tush Pushes”?

May 24, 2025 by Philadelphia Sports Nation

The tush push lives to see another year.

The Green Bay Packers, who saw their season’s opening and closing loss come at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles, introduced a rule to ban their special play. But it failed. Needing 24 out of 32 teams to support the ban, only 22 voted to outlaw the tush push.

Not-so-coincidentally, 13 of the 14 different teams the Birds play next season voted to ban the tush push. The Detroit Lions were the sole exception.

So, maybe they get off the hook. As for the other 16 games the Eagles play, there may be some bad blood. Ninety-four percent of their schedule conspired against them to remove a play they made famous—it wouldn’t be normal not to feel a little animosity.

The question: Will the Eagles be more petty than ever with their tush push usage? Considering how close it was to being banned, a re-vote next spring could bring an end to the Birds’ notorious play. Do they weaponize that knowledge and take everyone to town?

Eagles Have a Dynasty Brewing; Is It Time to Get Petty?

The Eagles have a bit of a dynasty brewing. Since acquiring A.J. Brown in the 2022 offseason, they’ve made two Super Bowls and won one—they’ve been the best team out of the NFC two-thirds of the time. With a record of 45–14 in that span (76.27% winning percentage), this club has been unstoppable.

At this point, perhaps the Eagles see themselves as able to have a bit of fun.

The Eagles visit the Packers on Nov. 10. Better yet, it’s a primetime game—Monday Night Football. With America watching, anticipating the juicy drama, the Birds might opt to send a message. Instead of running the tush push, say, two times, they make it a dozen.

Instead of a quarterback kneel to end the game, it’s another tush push.

This sounds a bit ridiculous. That’s because it is, to be fair. But that kind of matches head coach Nick Sirianni’s fiery personality, no? At the very least, the social media team has been victory-lapping.

The Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, and Washington Commanders all conspiring against the Eagles, too, won’t go unnoticed. It’s not like the players had much say on what their owner voted on, but they bear that responsibility. Do the Eagles take it to them even harder?

Is Tush Push Ban Threat Bulletin Board Material for Eagles?

The Eagles don’t need “bulletin board material” to win football games. They just won 18 of them in one season en route to an obliteration of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Still, it’s hard not to be at least a little bit ticked off. The Eagles worked hard to perfect a play, and it’s very likely going to get banned by the 2026 offseason, seeing how close it was to happening in 2025.

Do the Birds play with a bit more swagger this upcoming season, knowing almost their entire schedule tried to do them dirty? Is that the bulletin board material they need to strike fear in their opposition once again?

All’s well that ends well for the Eagles.

But maybe not all is well. Are the defending Super Bowl champions petty enough to increase their tush push usage, simply to spite teams and owners around the NFL?

If so, it would be totally “Philly.”
