Jason Kelce named four options for the team once he decides to retire.
In late-June, team veteran Jason Kelce was a guest bartender as part of a fundraiser — which raised $100k — for the the Eagles Autism Foundation. During the event, Kelce was asked about his unique contract clause, and who he sees as the heir-apparent to the center position once he does finally hang up his cleats.
The anchor to the offensive line named Landon Dickerson, Isaac Seumalo, Luke Juriga, and Nate Herbig as the team’s four options currently on the roster, but wasn’t sure who would end up getting that role — leaving that (future) decision to coach Jeff Stoutland.
“When I’m done, Jeff will find the best five guys to be out there at the same time,” Kelce said, according to Mike Kaye of NJ.com. “Whoever is at center will be one of those five guys.”
Dickerson seems like the guy with the most potential to really run with the opportunity and position, but with his injury history and having yet to see him on the field for drills, it’s way too early to know if all those intangibles the team spoke about from his college days will translate to the NFL.
Seumalo seems to have finally gotten the hang of the left guard position, and the ability to move around the line with his various experience could keep him as an backup option, but I don’t know that I’d love him full-time at center. Juriga could be an option, but there’s not a whole lot to go off of in terms of starting potential. Herbig on the other hand has been able to fill in for Kelce on occasion, but with his developing skillset at other spots along the line, might be better served elsewhere.
