Voluntary OTA’s are underway in Philadelphia, and Eagles players are taking the field. Among those players suiting up are the undrafted free agents that Howie signed after the 2022 draft. There are many intriguing names to watch, including a couple corners from top rated power 5 schools, and some possible contributors on the offensive side of the ball. Let’s take a look at three undrafted free agents to watch that could possibly make the team in 2022.
First up we have Josh Jobe. Jobe is a Corner out of Alabama who, Prior to the 2021 season, was projected to be a day two pick. In 2021 he had a “down year” at Alabama, mostly due to injuries. Josh Jobe is a very physical corner, who posted 55 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and 2 forced fumbles in his Junior year at school. He has pretty long arms at 32 5/8″, so he could move to safety too if the Eagles need help back there. Jobe played pretty well against the best receivers in college football, so he is a fun guy to watch and keep an eye on to make the team.
Secondly we have Britain Covey. Covey is a small slot receiver who caught scouts attention as an extremely dangerous kick returner. He stands at 5’8, 169 pounds. He had three kick return touchdowns last year at Utah, and over a 47 game college career he had 184 catches for 2011 yards, and 11 touchdowns. The Eagles return game has been nothing to brag about the past couple years, so the addition of Covey could be fun to watch if he makes the team as the primary returner.
Lastly we have Mario Goodrich. Goodrich is a corner out of Clemson who did not play much earlier in his career, but who came on very well his senior year. Coming from Clemson, Goodrich is no stranger to playing against really good receivers. His senior year he posted 42 tackles, 2 interceptions (1 pick six), 9 pass breakups, and 1 forced fumble. Some worry about his speed as he ran a 4.52 40, but he is a very physical tackler who could help Philly on special teams and possibly develop into a rotational role player.
The Eagles have added a ton of key pieces this offseason, and the undrafted free agent class has plenty of guys to keep an eye on to make the team this year.
