Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 7/23/21.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

From NFL Now on @nflnetwork: #Eagles TE Zach Ertz will report for the start of training camp, though I don’t believe it’s all sunshine and roses between him and the team. (I still got love for ya, @howardeskin) pic.twitter.com/Zu46xAZDAL

MIKE GARAFOLO: “I disagreed with some of the other things that Howard reported in there and that was [the idea that] ‘Zach Ertz was over the issues’ and he is going to be an Eagle this upcoming season. Or, at least, a good chance of that. Having covered this situation the whole way, I do not believe that’s the case. I don’t believe everything is forgotten and forgiven. Zach Ertz, when he spoke to the media at the end of the season this last season, spoke like a guy who knew his time in Philadelphia was up. Even though he’s going to report for the start of training camp, I believe there is a chance he will still not be with the Eagles. And, look, this is a guy who was injured last year and that’s why the production fell off. And he’s really intent on proving he’s still the same guy, provided that he is healthy. And that’s why Howard noted this, ‘Hey, he’s been working out at the facility the last couple of weeks.’ Well, my understanding is because people weren’t there. So he could just go in, do his work, because he’s in Philadelphia, and this is the team he’s with right now. So, don’t read too much into that as far as him working out at the facility. He just wanted to go in and get good work and get out of there without really having to interact with a lot of folks. So, Zach Ertz, we’ll see where it goes, but I’m not quite putting him on the roster with the Eagles Week 1 just yet.

Howard Eskin believes there’s a 90% chance Deshaun Watson will be traded to the Eagles – BGN
“But the Eagles have the three first-round picks, and that’s what they’re gonna have, and this is the prediction I’m going to make: based on the information that I got, when — and I’ll say WHEN — he is traded, I think there is a 90% chance that he will be with the Philadelphia Eagles. And just based on all the information that I’ve gotten, that’s what I’ve come down to.”

From the Bleachers #69 – The Wentz Banner Comes Down – BGN Radio
On the latest episode of From the Bleachers, Shamus Clancy discusses the Carson Wentz banner coming down at Lincoln Financial Field and its new replacement. He then makes a passionate plea for Frank Gore to break Emmitt Smith’s all-time rushing record.

Philadelphia Eagles: 25 thoughts about the defense and special teams, like Derek Barnett or Josh Sweat? – The Athletic
44. The Eagles need to give Jalen Reagor a chance to return punts. He’s a dynamic returner who can change a game, but he wasn’t given enough opportunities last season. Reagor returned only four punts, including one for a touchdown. Ball security was a major reason, and the Eagles preferred the sure-handed Greg Ward in situations when the player was more likely to call for a fair catch, but this job should be Reagor’s. Trust him to catch the punt, trust him to make decisions and reap the benefits.

NFL Head Coach Power Rankings – Sports Illustrated
New head coach rankings: 5. Nick Sirianni, Eagles. Staff strength: 7. Playoff chances: 10% Sirianni is in a difficult spot. Despite what it looks like from the outside, the Eagles want Jalen Hurts to succeed and there is pressure on Sirianni to make that happen. With a decaying veteran base and a messy divorce from Doug Pederson causing some wounds to linger, this was the kind of job for a second-time head coach more used to the game’s political side. If Sirianni can handle the noise and survive into year three, after the Eagles will have spent all of their massive 2022 draft capital (including, as of now, four picks in the top 40), he might be in calmer waters.

Eagles DE Ryan Kerrigan helps rescue bulldogs – 6ABC
Kerrigan has more QB hits against the Eagles than any other team. The 6-foot-4-inch, 265-pound lineman is a giant on the field. But off the field, he’s a gentle giant. Kerrigan and his wife Jessica rescue bulldogs. “If it’s up to my wife, we would have a 101 Dalmatians here,” Kerrigan says with a giant smile. His wife’s passion has rubbed off on him. The Kerrigans have rescued four bulldogs and currently have two living with them: Truman, a French bulldog who is blind, and Kennedy, an English bulldog who was living on the streets in China with severe skin disorder.

Saquon Barkley among 6 Giants who will start season on PUP list – Big Blue View
Saquon Barkley, coming back from a torn ACL that forced him to miss 14 games last season, will begin training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. The New York Giants announced Thursday that Barkley is one of six players who will begin training camp on PUP. In addition to Barkley, center Jonotthan Harrison (hamstring), tackle Matt Peart (back), tight end Kyle Rudolph (foot), linebacker Oshane Ximines (hamstring) and rookie cornerback Aaron Robinson (core muscle), the team’s third-round draft choice, will begin on PUP.

The Dallas Cowboys will place Amari Cooper, DeMarcus Lawrence, and four others on PUP to open camp – Blogging The Boys
This isn’t necessarily shocking for Amari Cooper who was not a heavy participant in minicamp. We are still extremely early in the training camp process so there is no need to panic for anyone, but hearing that Trysten Hill and Mitch Hyatt need the most rehab time compared to others is also notable.

Optimism Is in the Air at Cowboys Training Camp – The Ringer
Dallas features some of the best playmakers in the sport and an overhauled defense. The only question is whether offseason hype can finally turn into regular-season wins.

NFL informs clubs that COVID-19 outbreaks among unvaccinated players could lead to forfeited games – NFL.com
As the NFL approaches the 2021 season, the league informed clubs that it would not extend the season to accommodate a COVID-19 outbreak among unvaccinated players that causes a game cancellation. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Thursday that the NFL sent a memo to its clubs stating that if a game cannot be rescheduled during the 18-week schedule due to a COVID-19 outbreak among unvaccinated players, the team with the outbreak will forfeit and be credited with a loss, per sources informed of the situation. In addition, players on both teams will not be paid for the lost contest, and the team responsible for the cancelled game due to unvaccinated players will cover financial losses and be subject to potential discipline from the Commissioner’s office.
