Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 6/11/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Eagles Minicamp Practice Notes: Jalen Hurts caps off strong spring – BGN
POSITION BATTLE UPDATE — CORNERBACK: Kelee Ringo broke up a Tanner McKee throw to Danny Gray on a comeback. Then he had a leaping breakup on a McKee jump ball throw to Terrace Marshall. Not the best pass but still a good job by Ringo. Ringo was first up at right cornerback with the Eagles’ first-team defense in 7-on-7 and 11-on-11. He did still rotate with Adoree’ Jackson.

Eagles minicamp takeaways: DeVonta Smith shines, Kelee Ringo looks right, Jalyx Hunt hunts – PHLY
2. Kelee Ringo was first up at cornerback on Tuesday in seven-on-seven drills, but what stood out more than the depth chart component was the usage and the performance. Ringo played on the right side with Quinyon Mitchell on the left side. The Eagles are looking at the cornerbacks on both sides. (It’s worth wondering whether Mitchell will travel more with receivers this season.) Ringo, who is my pick to win the starting job, had two notable pass breakups in practice. This is the year for Ringo to combine the physical gifts with the understanding of the position, because the traits are hard to find.

Eagles minicamp practice notes: Drama-free in Philly – PhillyVoice
Saquon Barkley recently made some news when he suggested on Chris Long’s “Green Light” podcast he could up and retire at any moment. On Tuesday, he made sure to note, “I don’t plan on retiring anytime soon.”

Eagles practice observations: Kelee Ringo stars; Jahan Dotson catches on; Jalyx Hunt brings the energy – Inquirer
Jahan solo. A.J. Brown took his first competitive snaps – at least at the practices I witnessed. The Eagles seem to be managing the soon-to-be 28-year-old’s workload, like they have been with other key skill players. I counted only a few grabs for Brown, which was abnormal considering how often quarterback Jalen Hurts likes to throw to his favorite target. Not having Brown and Smith for most of the spring was probably, in the bigger picture, a good thing for the next batch of receivers. Jahan Dotson benefited the most and was often Hurts’ first outlet. He caught every pass I logged in the three open workouts. He didn’t see the ball very much in his first season with the Eagles, for various reasons. But the former Washington Commanders first-round draft pick, who is playing in the last year of his rookie contract, has consistently flashed reliable hands. He could be pivotal if Hurts is forced to throw more this season.

Quarterback questions for 32 NFL teams: Contracts, QB1 races – ESPN
How will the Eagles’ annual coordinator change affect Jalen Hurts this time? The 2022 Eagles reached the Super Bowl with Shane Steichen as offensive coordinator, but then Steichen got hired to coach the Colts, and Hurts and the Philly offense regressed badly in 2023 under Brian Johnson. The Eagles brought in Kellen Moore last season, built one of the all-time great run games and won the Super Bowl as a result. But now Moore is coach of the Saints, and Kevin Patullo has been promoted to offensive coordinator. Underestimating Hurts is clearly a foolish endeavor at this point, but he and the team are surely hoping things go better than they did the last time they promoted from within to fill the coordinator spot.

Quarterbacks Under Pressure 2024: More Jackson and Allen Accolades – FTN Fantasy
What that leaves us with are Jared Goff and Jalen Hurts, the two successful quarterbacks most dependent on their offensive lines in 2024. Both finished in the top seven in clean pockets, both topping a 60% DVOA with at least 8.8 yards per attempt. When the Lions and Eagles passing attacks were humming, they were a nightmare to deal with. But when pressure did get home, both quarterbacks really struggled, at least by their high standards. They both are in the bottom 13 in DVOA under pressure, and Hurts, especially, goes into extreme dink-and-dunk mode, with just 1.9 yards per attempt. Hurts has bounced around quite a bit in this stat over his short career. Most of the gap from 2024 was just a drop in his performance under pressure, and a lot of that came from taking more sacks. His sack rate under pressure jumped from 19.1% in 2023 to 29.9% last season. He’s grown reluctant to get rid of the ball when under pressure, which has come in hand-in-hand with him being more confident in his ability to make things happen while under pressure. Confidence is good, and making great plays when pressured is the sign of a good quarterback, but Hurts gets caught trying to do much at times. It’s also worth noting that Hurts’ 2.78-second time to pressure was the longest in the league, a product of him holding onto the ball forever. Hurts needs to speed up his processing time in the pocket – it doesn’t hurt him when his all-world offensive line has holds up, but he needs to stop taking so many sacks when something goes wrong.

Nick Sirianni on Saquon Barkley’s retirement talk: He’s got a lot of good football left – PFT
On Tuesday, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was asked about his reaction to Barkley’s comments. “Yeah, I guess anybody could do that, right? I just know he’s got a lot of good football left in him,” Sirianni said, via a transcript from the team. “Again, I have interactions with these guys every single day and I’m excited that he’s on our football team and he’ll be on our football team for the 2025 season and I really don’t let myself get wrapped up into anything else beyond that, except for the day that we’re in and trying to get ready for this practice and obviously handle all those things as they come. Yeah, as long as I’m the head coach here, I’d always want to Saquon Barkley on this football team. Obviously it means a lot to this football team and as a player and as a teammate.” Sanders had a lot of good football left in him when he walked away from the Lions after 10 years, so that’s not necessarily going to play a role in Barkley’s plans. For now, though, Sirianni and the Eagles can feel confident that Barkley will be back for his eighth NFL season.

What’s next for the Eagles? ‘When we get back, it’s time to get back to grinding’ – PE.com
What the coaching staff wants to see is a collective locker room that is tuned in every day, that is taking the process of building for the season ahead in micro-moments – staying where their feet are, focused on the task, doing that “one percent” better thing that has served the Philadelphia Eagles so well since Nick Sirianni became head coach in 2021. “I feel like that’s been the mindset since we got back,” All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson said. “Last year’s team won the Super Bowl and we celebrated and then, like it is every year, time to move on. This is a different team. We haven’t done anything yet.” Well, technically not true. The Eagles have attacked the offseason in every way – the roster makeover in free agency, the 10-player NFL Draft and the 10 players added post-draft, the spring practices, the Organized Team Activities, and now, the Mandatory Minicamp that concluded at the NovaCare Complex on Tuesday.

Did Washington Draft a Replacement for Jeremy Chinn? – Hogs Haven
Despite a solid season, the front office did not retain his services, and he inked a reasonable 2-year, $16.258 million dollar deal with the Las Vegas Raiders. Clearly the front office had a plan for replacing his snaps this upcoming season. So what is it? In my opinion, the answer is a player they drafted…last year. Dominique Hampton. Since Hampton was inactive for all but one game last season, a brief refresher on the fifth-rounder might be in order. A height, weight, speed prospect, his 9.57 RAS score is very comparable to Chinn’s.

Micah Parsons present at Cowboys minicamp, but did not participate in any drills – Blogging The Boys
Some refer to this kind of move as a “hold in” where a player is present, and therefore not subject to fines, but doesn’t involve themselves in any activity where they could be injured. It is an evolution of sorts on the holdout that has been around forever. It is hard to say if that is exactly what Parsons was doing on Tuesday. Not participating could have been a decision that he made or the team could have been giving him the day off. Maybe the lack of participation was to allow him time to discuss whatever he discussed with Jerry Jones for almost half an hour. The team’s minicamp runs through Thursday so it is possible that we get some sort of answers before then. Until any more leaves fall, to use Jerry Jones’ parlance, we’ll continue to have to speculate.

The Jalin Hyatt hype train is in full swing, again — will it amount to anything this time? – Big Blue View
Russell Wilson, new starting quarterback for the New York Giants, has taken every opportunity to praise wide receiver Jalin Hyatt this offseason. “He’s a guy that I really believe in,” Wilson said of Hyatt last week after an OTA. “I’m really excited about him and what he’s done so far.” During his introductory Zoom call with media after signing with the Giants, Wilson referred to Hyatt as an “untapped” playmaker on offense. Wilson, famous for his deep “moon ball” passes, showed last season that he can still deliver in that area as he led the NFL in completion percentage on passes of 20 or more yards.

Kirk Cousins is the final quarterback domino left to fall, if it falls at all – SB Nation
Last week saw the most boring surprise of all time, when Aaron Rodgers finally agreed to join the Pittsburgh Steelers. To his credit he did so prior to this week which means he will participate in the minicamp. Fair is fair. With the Rodgers situation taken care of that leaves only one quarterback who we pondered the future of at the beginning of the offseason: Kirk Cousins. The Falcons have stood firm in not releasing Cousins and at this point, why should they? Atlanta is clearly comfortable in the weirdness of this whole situation and if Kirk happens to be a very expensive backup behind Michael Penix then the money is already spent. But could Cousins find a new home before season’s beginning? At this point that feels unlikely. Who would it even be? Maybe the Indianapolis Colts find themselves in a situation where Anthony Richardson feels incredibly untrustworthy for some reason and they don’t feel confident in Daniel Jones? Outside of that I am struggling to find a team that makes sense.
