The Latest Eagles Injury Report Is Encouraging for Their QB

January 9, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

The Philadelphia Eagles were facing some uncertainty as they entered Wild Card Weekend. Things went as swimmingly as possible at the end of the season. They walloped the Dallas Cowboys, while also picking up a surprising win against the New York Giants despite resting starters. Now they turn their sights to the playoffs and the Green Bay Packers in the opening round. However, they entered the playoffs with some uncertainty. They picked up their final two victories of the season without star quarterback Jalen Hurts. He was knocked out of their second matchup against the Commanders with a concussion. He’s been sidelined ever since and there was fear earlier in the week that he may not be able to play in this week’s pivotal game. However, the latest Eagles injury report was just released and they have been given encouraging news on Hurts’ status.

Eagles Injury Report Update

Good News

According to multiple outlets, Hurts returned to practice today which is a positive sign he will play Sunday. Head Coach Nick Sirianni confirmed this news based on a report from NBC Sports Philadelphia.

“He’ll be out there,” Sirianni said. “We’ll get you the injury report after practice. We’ll see how it goes. But we’ll get you the injury report after practice today.”

The article also goes on to say that while this doesn’t necessarily confirm that Hurts will clear the concussion protocol in time for Sunday’s showdown, all signs seem to point in that direction.

This was further reinforced by the fact that the Eagles cut quarterback Ian Book from the roster. Considering the team’s QB injuries over the last couple of weeks coming down to Tanner McKee making a start in week 18, you’d want extra QBs on hand if you feared your starter wasn’t going to play.

Hurts This Season

Hurts Overall has been having a solid season. Perhaps, it’s unrealistic at this point to expect he’ll regain his MVP-caliber 2022 form, however, he has still been productive. Also, since Saquon Barkley has taken the mantle of heart and soul of the team, Hurts hasn’t had to be Superman all that much. Overall, Hurts threw for 2,903 yards with 18 touchdowns to just five interceptions. He solved his turnover issue at the midway point of the season. Asking Hurts to throw less has been a big factor in his success. He doesn’t have to worry about as much as a passer, which simplifies the game.

Hurt’s best performance of the year came against the Pittsburgh Steelers. At a time when the Eagles passing game was being criticized, Hurts silenced the doubters by throwing for 290 yards and two touchdowns with no picks. He also had an efficient 78% completion percentage and a stellar passer rating of 125.3

Hurts is ultimately the foundation of this team, so it will be pivotal to gain him back this weekend. They will need him at full strength if they want to go on a deep playoff run and have a chance at a Super Bowl title.
