The Eagles are The Team To Beat In The NFC

June 7, 2025 by Philadelphia Sports Nation

Five years ago the Eagles finished the season 4-11-1. Fired the Head Coach that won their first and only(at the time) Super Bowl.

From 13-3 in 2017, to multiple 9-7 seasons prior to the 4-11-1 year. The Eagles were trending downwards.

Enter Nick Sirianni, the Indianapolis Colts Offensive Coordinator. With a familiar face in Frank Reich as his head coach for 2 seasons.

Four Years In The Making

The initial reception to Nick Sirianni wasn’t fantastic around the league. From flower references to playing rock-paper-scissors during draft interviews. He raised a few eyebrows and many had doubts.

The Eagles carried the largest dead cap hit in NFL history with $33.8M from the Carson Wentz trade. And still managed a winning record (9-8) with a rookie head coach, during Jalen Hurts first season as the full time starter.

One year later and the Eagles made the most of their draft capital and cap space. Acquiring A.J. Brown, Jordan Davis, Nakobe Dean, Landon Dickerson, Reed Blankenship, Kyzir White, Linval Joseph and Ndamukong Suh to name a few additions en route to an appearance in Super Bowl 57.

While they didn’t get the result they wanted two years ago. The Eagles have gone a perfect 4/4 making the playoffs during Nick Sirianni’s tenure.

And at the end of the 4th playoff run, the Eagles did it.

Super Bowl 59 Champions after a blowout of the Kansas City Chiefs who were one game from completing the three-peat.

Cemented in history, the Eagles now have their second Lombardi trophy and don’t plan on slowing down.

The Future Of The Birds

Coming into the 2025 season as Super Bowl Champions, they’ll be defending their title for 17+ weeks this fall.

With a schedule that has 11 games against playoff teams, defending the title won’t be easy, but the Eagles have gone to make plenty of additions this offseason. Including these free agents:

  • A.J. Dillon
  • Joshua Uche
  • Harrison Bryant
  • Adoree’ Jackson
  • Charley Hughlett
  • Patrick Johnson
  • Avery Williams
  • Kylen Granson
  • Azeez Ojulari
  • Kendall Lamm
  • Matt Pryor
  • Terrace Marshall

Then in April the Eagles added the following players in the 2025 Draft.

  • Jihaad Campbell
  • Andrew Mukuba
  • Ty Robinson
  • Mac McWilliams
  • Smael Mondon
  • Drew Kendall
  • Kyle McCord
  • Myles Hinton
  • Cameron Williams
  • Antwaun Powell-Ryland

With these additions the Eagles have managed to improve their depth and provide plenty of training camp competition throughout the entire roster.

And if there’s any concern to continue adding late into the season. The Eagles currently hold THIRTEEN draft picks in the 2026 draft.

Howie Roseman and the Eagles front office have managed to rebuild into Super Bowl champions (again) and have built the team to remain competitive and not sacrifice the future. Being the only NFC team in the last 10 years to attend three super bowls, and bring home two victories.

Now with one of the youngest defenses in the league, and the majority of the offensive unit signed until 2027 or later. The Eagles will look to match the Chiefs with a repeat of their own.

Go Birds.
