CJ Uzomah now becomes the 4th TE signed to the Eagles roster. Including Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcaterra and Albert Okwuegbunam.
Past Seasons
Uzomah spent the last two season on the New York Jets. During that contract he put up 29 Receptions on 39 Targets, for a total of 290 Yards in 27 games. While on the Jets, Uzomah’s Quarterbacks were mostly Zach Wilson, Mike White and Joe Flacco.
Looking further back in his career where he spent 7 years with the Bengals. Uzomah was able to hit a career high in yards(493) during Joe Burrows 2nd year as the Bengals QB. Even with Andy Dalton in 2018 and 2019, Uzomah put up 439 and 242 yards.
A TE who has seen previous production now joins an Eagles team that already has their starter, but has missed that extra piece.
TE Depth Finally Addressed
It’s been two straight years now that Dallas Goedert was injured and missed time during the regular season. Both years the Eagles Tight End production plummeted when the TE1 was out. The trend continued last year when Jack Stoll and Grant Calcaterra combined for 77 total yards over the ENTIRE year.
Last trade deadline certainly was an option if the Eagles wanted to build on the offense that was already struggling come the Halloween deadline. But nothing could prepare the Eagles for Goedert’s injury during their Week 9 game against Dallas.
With Albert O back on a 1-year extension and now the signing of Uzomah. Another depth role has been answered, with 3 picks in the top 55 still to come.
While the Eagles were always going to miss out on selecting Brock Bowers. The thought of drafting a TE might be in the Eagles near future. Zach Ertz was 28 when the Eagles drafted Goedert in the 2nd round of the 2018 Draft. With Goedert turning 29 in the off-season, perhaps the Eagles could look at Ja’Tavion Sanders in the 2nd round. Or they could wait for the 2025 draft, and aim high for Colston Loveland.
With Uzomah joining the other 3 TE’s on the team. How do you think the depth chart will look come pre-season?
