The Carson Wentz banner is officially coming down

See ya.

It’s been 151 days since news of the Philadelphia Eagles trading Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts first emerged.

As such, there’s been plenty of time to process the former franchise quarterback’s departure. The majority — if not the entirety — of Eagles fans have moved on by now.

But today serves as another reminder of how the team is turning the page on an era that, while certainty successful in some regards (see: winning a Super Bowl), wasn’t quite as prosperous as they hoped it would be.

The Wentz banner hung on the east side of Lincoln Financial Field (facing I-95 South and closer to Pattison Avenue) is being removed.

It’s really too bad Wentz couldn’t be more like the MVP caliber player we saw in 2017 beyond that season. Maybe he’ll rebound with Frank Reich but I have my doubts.

In any case, he’s gone. And how he performs doesn’t directly impact the Eagles beyond this season, in which Philly owns Indy’s 2022 second-round pick that might be elevated to a first.

As for what’s set to replace the Wentz banner? That much remains to be seen. There have been some unconfirmed rumors that Jason Kelce might be taking his place. I’d like to see an all-time Eagle like Brandon Graham go up there, personally. Or maybe the Eagles will choose a more generic option.

What say you?
