Philadelphia should be able to get their 2025 second-round pick signed sooner than later.
As of me clicking “Publish now” to send this article to the front page of Bleeding Green Nation, the Philadelphia Eagles have not yet signed Andrew Mukuba to his rookie contract.
But there is now more hope that Mukuba will put pen to paper in time for him to participate in training camp when players report to the NovaCare Complex next week on Tuesday, July 22.
In case you haven’t been following along, there’s been a big delay in teams signing their second-round picks from the 2025 NFL Draft since the top two selections from that round received unprecedented fully guaranteed contracts that usually only go to first rounders. The unsigned second rounders have clearly been holding out for more guarantees.
But there was finally some movement on Wednesday evening with the San Francisco 49ers officially signing No. 43 overall pick Alfred Collins to his rookie deal. That contract is reportedly 88% guaranteed, which Adam Schefter described as a “huge jump” over the same slot from the 2024 NFL Draft.
The ball continued to roll on Thursday morning with the Chicago Bears signing No. 62 overall pick Shemar Turner to his rookie deal. The Baltimore Ravens also reportedly signed No. 59 overall pick Mike Green. While the specifics details of those contracts are currently unknown, it seems like good news for the Eagles’ chances of signing Mukuba soon.
Mukuba was selected two spots after Turner at No. 64 overall, which was the final pick in the second round. No. 65 overall pick Darius Robinson has been signed since June, so, the framework for Mukuba’s deal shouldn’t be hard to figure out.
It would be ideal for Mukuba — who has recently been training alongside fellow rookie Jihaad Campbell in South Jersey — to avoid missing practice time since he’s entering training camp in a battle for the starting safety job next to Reed Blankenship. It’s looking increasingly likely that he’ll be under contract by the middle of next week.
