Ravens, Chargers May Sabotage Chiefs “Perfect Fit” Free Agent

February 19, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

zach ertz free agent

Former Philadelphia Eagle legend tight end Zach Ertz will become a free agent this a free agent this offseason but he may sign with a new team. According to one report, they name the Kansas City Chiefs as a perfect fit for the veteran as the team could be looking for a new tight to prepare for life after Travis Kelce. It’s easy to see why the Chiefs could have an interest in Ertz, especially after the 2024 campaign he had under quarterback Jayden Daniels. Originally selected in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, the former Stanford product became one of the best tight ends with his size and nice hands but the resurgence of Dallas Goedert made him expendable.

Ertz got a second chance with the Commanders after spending a rocky season with the Arizona Cardinals. He admits he fell in love with the game again since the tight end had his best season in a long time. Ertz may want to return to Washington, but a team like the Chiefs could change his mind. The Chiefs are still waiting on what will happen with Kelce after a disappointing loss in the Super Bowl against the Eagles. Either way, the team should be in the market for a tight end in this year’s draft but while they do that, it’s clear they could try to intrigue Ertz to join them.

However, Ertz is one of the best available free agents next month. He should have somewhat of a market next offseason at a bargain lucrative deal which is why teams like the Ravens, Chargers could steal him from the Chiefs’ potential pursuit.

The Replacement for Ertz

The Baltimore Ravens had the perfect offense to go on a deep run last postseason with a capable quarterback in Lamar Jackson but things fell apart in the divisional round. Mark Andrews was one of the men responsible for their loss that matchup and he’s been the subject of trade rumors even before the inconsistencies. It’s fair to say he’s never becoming a starter again in the NFL and Isaiah Likely is their new No. 1 tight end moving forward after outperforming him all last 2024 campaign. With that, the Ravens could consider trading Andrews despite the organization defending him after the divisional round loss since they already have their No. 1 tight end.

Even if they decide to keep Andrews, they should target Ertz for relief. As of this posting, the Ravens don’t have plenty of dependable weapons other than Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman in the aerial attack. Perhaps, Ertz joining the Ravens could boost their chances for a Super Bowl run since he was able to excel in Washington. He may produce huge results being behind catching footballs from Jackson and a strong offense.

More Weapons for Herbert

At this point, the Los Angeles Chargers need any capable veteran weapon to help quarterback Justin Herbert this upcoming Fall. Ladd McConkey is the only active reliable receiver but since he’s younger, the Chargers should be in the market for veterans. Ertz is a better upgrade than Will Dissly so perhaps, head coach Jim Harbaugh could bring out a nostalgia in Ertz that no one has seen before.

He won’t record over 1,000 yards but he’s easily the best security blanket if the wide receiving department falters. This addition should increase their postseason chances and finally put Herbert in the best position to win.
