The biggest goal of every team in training camp every year should be to come out of it healthy. While the Philadelphia Eagles have avoided major injury, they are starting to have a lot of minor injuries pile up. While these aren’t long-term concerns (yet), it still is less than ideal to be heading into the regular season this dinged up.
Eagles’ Injuries Starting to Pile Up Before Season Begins
Offensive Injuries Mounting for Philly
The biggest injury news of training camp came from Landon Dickerson. A few weeks ago, Dickerson had a major injury scare that initially seemed like it could be season-ending. Dickerson ended up getting “Best Case Scenario” regarding that injury, but his status for Week 1 is still in doubt. Given the questionable depth of the Eagles’ offensive line, this is cause for concern for the Eagles.
The most recent came in the form of a Johnny Wilson injury. Wilson was carted off the field from practice on Tuesday, and the Eagles ended up receiving the worst-case scenario regarding the injury. Wilson will undergo season-ending surgery on his knee and ankle.

Wilson will be missed, as he started to hit his stride in the preseason and was important to the Eagles’ run blocking last year. The John Metchie trade just a few days earlier softens the blow of this, adding more depth to the position. But the Eagles will undoubtedly miss him.
Many starters are dealing with nagging injuries as well. A.J. Brown has been practicing on and off for the last couple of weeks with a hamstring injury. DeVonta Smith has missed practices recently with a groin injury. Jordan Mailata missed practice this week after suffering a concussion. Even backup quarterback Tanner McKee has a finger injury on his throwing hand.
Eagles Defensive Injuries

The defense is dealing with fewer injuries than the offense, but it still leaves them with more questions than answers.
Rookie safety Andrew Mukuba had a great game against the Cleveland Browns last week. He made some big plays, including a pick-six off of Browns quarterback Dillon Gabriel.

Mukuba’s positive momentum was short-lived, though. He exited Tuesday’s practice with a hamstring injury and has not returned to practice since. Given that he looked poised to push Sydney Brown for the starting safety spot, this injury has come at a really tough time for Mukuba and the Eagles’ defense. On top of that, Joshua Uche (groin) and Kelee Ringo (quad) did not practice with injuries on Thursday. Both players look to be important depth pieces this season.
The Eagles’ defense still will be without Nakobe Dean, as he is still working back from his torn patellar tendon. The defense is very young and still has questions about which players will be starting Week 1. Having any injuries, especially with players who are competing for those starting jobs, makes it even tougher to be at full strength in Week 1.
Are these players just sitting out of precaution? Possibly. Only time will tell. Either way, it is less than ideal to be operating at less than 100% as we approach the end of the preseason and start getting ready for the Philadelphia Eagles to take on the Dallas Cowboys.
