The Philadelphia Eagles could trade for Panthers wide receiver Adam Thielen during the NFL Draft this offseason. According to Bleacher Report, they believe the Eagles and Panthers could exchange hands in a possible trade that would send Thielen to Philadelphia for a fifth-round pick. Thielen is getting older, so the Panthers wouldn’t get out of him since he’s on the brink of retirement in the next two seasons. Despite deciding to stay with the Panthers, it doesn’t mean he has a clear future on this roster.
The wide receiver was the subject of trade rumors last season, and since the Panthers are building a supporting cast around quarterback Bryce Young, they could select a wideout in the first round. Originally selected as an undrafted rookie in 2013, the former Minnesota State product spent the majority of his career with the Minnesota Vikings, notching one All-Pro and two Pro Bowl nods. Thielen might not be the same anymore and could be a reliable third man receiver, which makes sense why the Eagles could pursue. Even after trading for Jahan Dotson last offseason, they’re searching for a dependable wideout who will help AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith.
Dotson has been a disappointment in the 2024 campaign as quarterback Jalen Hurts has been relying on the ground game with running back Saquon Barkley to move the offense. The Eagles wouldn’t be the only team that would pursue Thielen in a possible trade during the draft, but these two teams could intervene.

The New Dilemma
Unfortunately, the Kansas City Chiefs will probably have one of the worst supporting casts of wide receivers this upcoming season. Rashee Rice is coming off an injury, and second-year Xavier Worthy has been dealing with off-field issues, which could trigger a huge distraction for the chemistry of this team. Marquise Brown might be what saves this team in some moments, but he’s past his prime days and is only reliable when he can be. After losing DeAndre Hopkins in free agency, the Chiefs realize they need another wide receiver who can last them for about two more years until they draft one that can help in the aerial attack for the next few seasons.
If Worthy and Rice can’t stay out of trouble, this could spell danger for the team looking for a solution at the last minute. The Chiefs don’t need to spend the top dollar for Adam Thielen, and they should get him at the bare minimum if they can. Thielen won’t drastically turn things around, but he still has some life in him to help quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
More Help for Herbert
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Chargers are the most desperate when looking for a new wideout. The team is bringing back Mike Williams on a one-year deal, and he’s only effective if they acquire one more pass catcher in the aerial attack. 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey is still the best receiver on this depth chart, but adding someone like Thielen could help boost his game. McConkey and Thielen have similar characteristics in hands, size and versatility, so this would be an efficient help for Herbert’s pass game.
