Micah Parsons requests trade: “I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys”

That escalated quickly…

Things had been getting icy between Micah Parson and the Dallas Cowboys since the end of last season, but this past week — nearly two weeks into training camp — the contract stand-off between the two has snowballed and finally resulted in the Pro Bowl edge rusher formally requesting a trade. Not only did Parsons — a Harrisburg, Pennsylvania native — request a trade, he also revealed how Jerry Jones and the Cowboys handled the entire, messy situation.

Requesting a trade but still staying quiet can sometimes lead to a reunion between certain players and teams, but Parsons laying out all the ways the Jones’ family tried to screw him over feels like the end of the line. It also gives fans a glimpse into how poorly they manage the team, and how poorly they treat their players.

There are innumerable ways that Jeffrey Lurie and Howie Roseman are better than Jerry and his son, but the culture they’ve created in Philly and how they handle the contracts is among them. Even when the Eagles haven’t been able to pay players, there’s rarely bad blood, with Roseman often having tough, but honest, and up-front conversations with guys so they aren’t blindsided or strung along.

We are one week away from the first full slate of preseason games, and even though there will be plenty to watch on the field, it looks like when it comes to the NFC East, there will be plenty to watch off the field, too. (Terry McLaurin’s trade request from the Commanders hasn’t gotten this feisty, but there’s still time for that to change.)
