Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown Respond to Hurts “Extremely Frustrating” Play

November 22, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

As the Philadelphia Eagles prepare for their Week 12 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys, Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown had a chance to talk with reporters, specifically about a report regarding Hurts’ recent play. Even amidst two wins over NFC contenders, the Eagles still have their fair share of drama.

Extremely Frustrating?

The Eagles advanced to 8-2 with a victory over the Detroit Lions. It was another low-scoring outing, though for the Birds, with the defense doing the heavy lifting. Longtime Eagles reporter Derrick Gunn had this to say on The Seth Joyner Show after the win:

“Those things that [get] dissected on film [and] during practice, those things that are talked about among the quarterback coach, the offensive coordinator, the head coach, it has been constantly discussed all season long. Yet, when they transition to the field on a football game, [Hurts] plays his game. Not the game the coaches want him to play. He plays his game. I don’t think you can get out of that mode at this particular point. I think it’s what we’re going to have to watch all season long, is him playing his game…

“It’s frustrating in a lot of ways, to the coaching staff. And to the players. Extremely frustrating to the players. Because when they look at the film, the next day or a few days later, they see what’s available out there and what should’ve happened, and it didn’t happen, it’s frustrating to them as well. . . . I’m just basically telling you there’s a lot of people in that organization that are frustrated with the quarterback situation right now. But the quarterback understands he has them over a barrel. This is almost Carson Wentz part two. They’re not going to eat this kind of money yet.”

Too Conservative?

Obviously, without being in the meeting rooms with the team, one can only speculate about the internal feelings about Hurts. There is definitely some truth to Hurts playing his brand of football. He is a very risk-averse player, prioritizing the protection of the football. This has led to many, many wins for the Eagles, with a Super Bowl victory along the way. On the other hand, one could argue that he is being a little too conservative.
The Eagles’ offensive struggles lately suggest they need Hurts to be more aggressive. Especially if the coaches feel like the plays are there to be made. There has to be a balance between aggression and not forcing things, though. Given the confidence of the offense the last couple of seasons, though, it’s fair to have confidence in them turning it around.

Hurts and Brown Respond

Jalen Hurts spoke at his weekly press conference, and when asked about the report, he had the perfect response.

All Hurts can do is keep showing up to work and trying to right the ship.

A.J. Brown was also asked about the report today and had a more interesting answer.

While Brown didn’t directly throw more fuel on the fire, he turned down an opportunity to throw support behind his quarterback. With much speculation about their relationship, it will be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out.
Nevertheless, Hurts, Brown, and the Eagles will have their hands full in Week 12. With a win over the Dallas Cowboys, they can all but officially wrap up the NFC East. The win would also keep them in the driver’s seat atop the conference for the NFC’s only first-round bye.
