He can in fact keep getting away with this
It’s far too early in training camp to make declarative statements, we haven’t seen anyone play in a preseason game. But it’s not too early to feel good about the future, and the present. The Eagles had yet another widely praised draft, and the extremely early returns are that it is living up to the hype.
Jihaad Campbell was supposed to start camp limited by recovering from injury, but he hit the ground running and has turned heads all camp. The Eagles can afford to be patient with Campbell, but it sure seems that he is going to start sooner rather than later. Also love that he messed up on a play and punished himself with pushups.
I’ll let Vic Fangio speak about Mac McWilliams: “I do like the player. I think he’s got good skill and he’s got a little football savvy to him, which if you don’t have that, it’s hard to coach that.” Fangio guy, go ahead and pencil him for playing time.
This team might suddenly be stacked with inside linebackers. Smael Mondon not looking out of place with the 1s early in camp is highly encouraging.
A couple of second year players who got virtually no playing time last year through no fault of their own because they were behind All Pros on the depth chart have impressed as well: former Clemson teammates Will Shipley and Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
The salary cap forced exodus of talent in the offseason was overstated, and the young talent waiting in the wings is being understated. This is once again the best roster in the league. In several areas, probably even better than last year.
It should be more of the same next year, the Eagles already have four top 100 picks in 2026.
NFC East Vibes Check
Micah Parsons and Terry McLaurin have requested trades. This is pretty standard stuff before agreeing to a contract extension, see: Garrett, Myles. Parsons will probably be franchise tagged in the offseason because the Cowboys cash flow problems are real and they’re spectacular. McLaurin will be traded to the Patriots for a 2nd round pick and the Commanders will talk about how they want guys who want to be here then win 9 games.
Health will be the only thing that stops the Eagles from ending the decades long no consecutive NFC East winners streak.
