We might not be raising the Super Bowl 59 banner in front of Jerry Jones & The Dallas Cowboys just yet. But we got our first glimpse of the 2025 Eagles 2nd and 3rd string players in a 34-27 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Eagles sat the majority of their starters for their opening preseason match, while the below players were out this week. There’s no guarantee we won’t see them at some point in the next two matches.
Meanwhile on the other side of the field. Zac Taylor had the majority of the Bengals starters on the field for the entire 1st quarter of the game.
Concern For The Secondary
There’s been a battle at CB2 during camp now that there’s a Slay sized hole in the secondary.
With Quinyon Mitchell taking on the mantle of CB1 coming into his second season, there’s plenty of competition for his former role.
Adoree Jackson was signed to be the competition between Kelee Ringo and Eli Ricks.
But tonight’s showcase wasn’t very positive for the lone defensive would-be starters. It’s a good thing the Eagles traded for Jakorian Bennett, as the battles throughout the depth chart are just getting started.
QB2 Is Here
The Eagles made the right choice trading Kenny Pickett to the Cleveland Browns. In exchange for that trade they received a 2025 5th round pick, which was used in the trade up for Jihaad Campbell. And Dorian Thompson-Robinson who sits at QB3 on the depth chart.
After drafting Kyle McCord in the 6th round, the QB Factory doors are open!
Back to QB2.
Last season, Tanner McKee played a total of 89 offensive snaps in 2 games.
Coming in for an injured Pickett against the Cowboys Week 17. McKee went 3/4 for 54 yards and 2 TDs to secure a 41-7 victory. Then with nothing to play for in a Week 18 game against the Giants. Tanner McKee completed 27 of 41 passes with the second string offense with 2 more touchdowns.
If you cared for the preseason last year, and watched those two games to end the season. Today’s showing didn’t shock you.
Against most of the Bengals starting defense Tanner McKee opened the Eagles year with an impressive stat line: 20/25, 252 yards, 2 touchdowns and tacked on the Eagles first Tush Push TD of the season.
With two more preseason games in the coming weeks against the Browns and the Jets. Do you think the Eagles starters will see the field before September 4th? Or should they remained sidelined until the Season Opener.
