Disappointing it came to this.
The Philadelphia Eagles are waiving Travis Fulgham, according to a report from Geoff Mosher.
This development is not totally unexpected. As regularly noted in BGN’s daily training camp practice notes, Fulgham did not have a good summer. He dropped too many passes. He wasn’t able to make tough catches that were there to be made. He was basically invisible in the preseason games, aside from fumbling away a potential touchdown catch.
It’s a shame things played out this way. There was hope the Eagles had found something special when Fulgham had a stretch last season where he led the NFL in receiving for four weeks. But Fulgham clearly didn’t handle his success well as he fell out of favor with Doug Pederson’s coaching staff.
There was thought Fulgham would capitalize on a fresh start under the Nick Sirianni era. Back in OTAs, there was talk about him being one of the team’s starting three wide receivers. Instead, Fulgham is now subject to waivers.
Fulgham’s departure might not be permanent. Mike Garafolo notes the receiver might return on the practice squad, which is where he started the season last year before eventually going on to lead Philly in receiving yards. Maybe Fulgham will get an opportunity to redeem him down the road.
For now, the Eagles appear to be going with only five wide receivers on their 53-man roster.
