The trimming continues.
The Philadelphia Eagles officially waived the following five players on Sunday morning: tight end Cary Angeline, defensive end JaQuan Bailey, running back Elijah Holyfield, wide receiver Marken Michel, and linebacker Rashad Smith.
None of these five cuts are surprising.
Angeline was signed as a camp body to help fill some reps with Tyree Jackson and Jason Croom getting hurt.
Bailey, an undrafted rookie free agent signing, didn’t flash all that much this summer. His departure means the Eagles have just two UDFAs remaining: Kayode Awosika and Jack Stoll.
Holyfield originally joined the Eagles in late 2019. There was thought he might make last year’s roster as a fourth running back but he spent the 2020 season on the practice squad instead. He never threatened for a roster spot this year.
Michel was brought back in camp when the Eagles were dealing with some receiver injuries. Just a camp body.
Smith was signed to Philly’s practice squad last year. He didn’t do much to stand out in a good way this summer.
The Eagles’ roster is now down to 75 players. The team must get down to 53 before 4:00 PM Eastern on Tuesday, August 31.
