Building a competitive roster is one thing. Building a championship caliber roster without sacrificing the future of the franchise is an entirely different game.
And that’s what the Eagles have done the past offseasons. Loading up depth at every position with the expectation of “next man up” across the field.
From Avonte Maddox to Cooper DeJean. Fletcher Cox and Javon Hargrave into Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. Even from Jason Kelce to Cam Jurgens. The Eagles have been able to find successors in numerous positions before they were in emergency situations.
Now they find themselves as Super Bowl champions with multiple big ticket free agents having moved on from midnight green. With the losses of Josh Sweat, Brandon Graham, Milton Williams, Darius Slay and Kenneth Gainwell the Eagles will have some holes to fill. But which players will make an impact in 2025?
Jalyx Hunt
The Eagles lost 4 players during the offseason along the defensive line. While they’ve made some additions in Azeez Ojulari, Josh Uche and Patrick Johnson. Hunt should be one of the first players seeing a higher snap count in 2025.
With 241 snaps in his rookie season, the Eagles 3rd round pick tallied 1.5 sacks, 21 total tackles including 1 TFL, 2 forced fumbles and 3 QB hits.
During the playoffs Jalyx showed a spark for the future. In 103 playoff snaps Hunt added an additional 1.5 sacks, 10 tackles, 1 TFL, and 3 more QB hits.
Paired with Nolan Smith, the Eagles will have two cost controlled edges on rookie contracts for the next 3 seasons.
Ty Robinson
The Eagles 4th round draft pick could be inserted to the defensive line as early as week 1. Listed behind Moro Ojomo as DT4 on the depth chart, the Eagles will have a new project defensive tackle after Milton Williams and soon to follow Ojomo.
Even to follow Davis’ rookie season with 10-20 snaps a game could give any player a fighting chance when they’re playing alongside Jalen Carter.
With 37 total tackles his senior year of Nebraska, the “Vanilla Gorilla” tacked on 7 sacks, 13 TFL and a forced fumble in 13 games. Robinson may also give the Eagles an opportunity to used an oversized fullback. In case you’ve been impatiently waiting for Jordan Mailata to run the ball. A block like this might be the closest we’ll get.
Andrew Mukuba
Another 2025 rookie joins the picture of having a potential day 1 impact.
The story might be a little different if the Eagles hadn’t traded C.J. Gardner-Johnson earlier in the offseason. But with a hole at Safety, unless Sydney Brown, Lewis Cine or Tristin McCollum take the next step. The keys just might be Mukuba’s.
Spending his senior year at Texas, Mukuba’s final college year saw 69 total tackles, 4 TFL, including 5 interceptions and 1 forced fumble.
Are there any dark horse candidates you have for training camp who might be able to jump their current position on the depth chart?
Just 28 days till our first look at the Eagles preseason!
